Wow, another week, another big award win! We’re pleased to announce that Sophi has won the World Digital Media Award handed out by WAN-IFRA in the category of Best Digital News Start-up.
“Effective, useful, and scalable! I particularly appreciate that it takes journalists back to journalism rather than SEO, layout and analytics,” said one judge.
Added another judge: “The success of this strategy is in the metrics. But also in newsroom morale, if indeed the journalists can focus more on the stories and less on the admin of the web pages. Great use of AI to run a newsroom.”
Sophi is an artificial intelligence and machine-learning system that was built by our brilliant data scientists and developers. But this award belongs equally to our extraordinary newsroom, which collaborated closely with our digital department to shape and create a suite of software products that have truly transformed the way the media industry operates.
The World Digital Media Awards is the news media industry’s only truly global digital media competition. Competitors for these awards are those who won WAN-IFRA’s regional Digital Media Awards during the year in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America and South Asia, which together provide news publishers with regular showcases for the best-practice innovation in digital publishing worldwide.
In May, Sophi had won the 2020 North American Digital Media Award awarded by The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) in the category of Best Digital News Start-up. This award honours news publishers that have delivered unique and original digital media projects in the past year.
Last week, Sophi won the Online Journalism Award for Technical Innovation in the Service of Digital Journalism, handed out by the Online News Association.
Sophi was also shortlisted for other awards earlier this year, including by the International News Media Association for Best New Technology or Digital Product, and by Digiday for Best Revenue Diversification Strategy as well as for Best Digital Product Innovation.
